The Japanese word for Animation is Anime. Everything to suit the tastes of all guys and girls - children, teenagers and adults. It features a wide variety of artistic styles.
The main players include Manga Entertainment, MVM, ADV, Sony, Revelation, Beez, Sunrise, Bandai and Optimum.
There is a massive and diverse range of genres; many of which interlink and create multiple sub-genres.
They include children's stories, teens stories, adult stories, action, adventure, comedy, drama, erotica (hentai), medieval fantasy, mecha (robots), occult, horror, romance, history, post-apocalyptic, religion and science fiction (Sci-Fi). Just about any genre you find in the west, you'll find in anime!
A story may have a seemingly simple surface plot, but at the same time may feature a far more complex, deeper storyline and character development.
Broadcast on television and the internet, and distributed via media like DVD, VHS videos, and included in games. Additionally, some are produced as full length movies.
It often draws influences from manga, graphic light novels, books and other cultures. Some storylines have been adapted into live action films, cartoons and TV series.
