Fullmetal Alchemist Picture
Fullmetal
Alchemist, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi in Japanese - "Alchemist of Steel".
Commonly abbreviated as FMA or Hagaren by fans. It's a manga series created by
Hiromu Arakawa and serialized in Enix's (now Square Enix) monthly Shonen Gangan.
It has also been adapted into an anime TV series and a movie sequel, as
well as several spin-off novels and video games. Alternative titles include El
alquimista de acero (Spanish) and Le Alchimiste de Acier (French).
The
anime series runs a mammoth 51 episodes. Read on and watch
videos below.
So what's it all about? After
losing their mother, two young boys, Alphonse and Edward Elric attempt to bring
her back from the dead using the forbidden science of human alchemy.
But alchemy operates on the theory of equivalent trade, and anyone
breaking the forbidden rules has to sacrifice something of equal value. The
brothers suffer horribly as a result.
The protagonists move on
trying to undo their mistakes. The scene is a historical fantasy world in which
the science and art of alchemy is powerful and near
magical.
Their goal is to seek information on the fabled
Philosopher's Stone, hoping it will allow them to regain their old bodies. All
of their hopes rest with this mythical stone, which may not even exist at all.
However, the brothers soon learn that they are not the only ones after
this powerful and mystical stone.
"Humankind cannot gain
anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal
value must be lost. That is Alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those
days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth."
Alphonse Elric - Character.
"The Philosophers' Stone: those who
possess it, no longer bound by the laws of Equivalent Exchange and Alchemy, may
gain without sacrifice, create without equal exchange. We searched for it, and
we found it." Edward Elric - Character.
Age rating: Recommended for older

So is it popular? What's everyone
saying? It has won the praise of international fans and critics
alike. At time of writing rated number 1 in our anime top 10 and "best

"...Fullmetal Alchemist was clearly the fan's choice,
winning five awards - a performance that is in line with ICv2's ranking of Full
Metal Alchemist as the #1 TV anime series of 2006 in the ICv2 Guide #39:

"Fullmetal Alchemist has become the
biggest multimedia phenomenon to hit Japan since .hack went big...plethora of
big-name companies that got in on the action.
What was originally the
brain child of creator Hiromu Arakawa and Square Enix (best known for the Final
Fantasy video games) has gone on to involve such prominent companies as...
Bandai (video games and merchandise), Sony (soundtrack), Shounen Gangan
(manga serialization), and, of course, Studio BONES coming through with the
animation...
Each name acts as a stone pillar, supporting Fullmetal
Alchemist in every way imaginable...Fortunately, the anime lives up to the
unnatural amount of hype that surrounds it... " Jeremy
